    Description

Up for sale is this kit that was found in a 2nd hand store.  I've spent several weeks searching for information on this exact kit in places like scalemates and worthpoint but to this point I have not found this exact kit.  However I believe I have found the "english" variant of this same ship on worthpoint.  Based on this, it is my conclusion that this is a very rare Japanese version of the kit.
    That said, p
lease note that I am not a model ship expert but that I am happy to answer any and all questions in order to provide you as accurate a description of this item as possible.
    What this kit includes:
Original box: Completely in Japanese other than the IMAI logo with "Plastic Model" underneath and the words "Battle Ship Kongo" on the right hand side.  The box shows some fading (probably typical given the age), does not have water damage but is becoming brittle.  There is a chunk missing from the bottom right corner of the box lid and a hole on the left edge.  The corners of the box have been scotch taped.  As previously mentioned most of the box is in Japanese.  The 1963 version of this model which has the same logo shows
Original instructions: Completely in Japanese other than the IMAI logo with "Plastic Model" underneath
    1x Small Sealed bag
containing 3 part trees (sprues) that appear to be completely in tact.  (~ 31 total pieces)
    1x Large Sealed bag
containing 2 decal sticker pages and  3 part trees (sprues) that appear to be completely intact (50-60 pieces)
    1x Small sealed bag
containing miscellaneous small items including a wire, glue, and a thin rod with a spring at the end (9-10 pieces)
    4x Large plastic pieces
that build the base and the body of the ship
1x Aristo Craft Double Permag No. 1 Electric Motor
inside its original small yellow box
One long red piece of thick card stock that shaped like a box lid and has some warping
One long card stock containing a picture of KONGO
One thin, rubber ring that has broken into several pieces
Questions I cannot answer with certainty:
    Manufacture date:
My best guess is 1960's based on a similar model I've seen on both scalemates and worthpoint and the version of the IMAI logo on the box.
    Is this kit complete?
Unknown.  I can say that this kit has the same pieces as the English version on worthpoint. The english version had the motor in a bag and this version has the motor in the yellow box.   All the bags in the box have their original seals, so the really small parts in those bags should all be present. In addition all the large plastic pieces shown on the instructions appear to be present.  What I don't know is if there are any other loose parts that have been lost over time.  As previously noted, there is one thin rubber ring that has deteriorated and broken apart (seems like it would be easy to replace)
