**Important: Shoppers & buyers have pointed out that the toning in the photos on the "background" field on these tags vary - mostly noting that a small percentage that are less toned (more white) than most of the others. To be fair to all buyers, I can no longer
accommodate
special requests and "cherry-pick" out only certain tones. When I receive orders, I will scoop them from the big box and count them out without looking at the toning, The overall condition will never be less than NOS with no major flaws**

In an effort to
distinguish themselves from competitors selling
essentially
the same exact product, coal companies tossed in hundreds of these fun
little tags in rail cars and smaller deliveries of all sizes as a form of advertising.
These tags came in many different sizes, colors and shapes. Some had an embossed tin foil faces and some, like the examples here, feature a waxy surface over a thin pressboard - sort of like the tops that glass milk bottles had 50+ years ago. These were meant to burn along with the coal that they traveled with. As you will notice in the photos, they are in "NOS" (New Old Stock) condition.
