Description

7.6 inches in diameter. Entirely handmade tin bowl, strange stamping of A.I.U. on rim that looks like it was made much later than the bowl itself, maybe belong to some soup kitchen long after it was discarded by the Bucharest Synagogue.
On rim, in late 18th or early 19th century Hebrew it says "This bowl of Tovah daughter of Avraham Bargi who is devoted to the holy congregation Bucharest". Bowls like this in silver are in museums to collect charity in the Syangogue. This tin bowl was all Tovah could afford to give, probably used for weekdays, and not the Sabbath or holidays. If you cut and paste the links below, you'll see a few examples like this bowl in the collection of the Jewish Museum of Budapest.
